Time is Money

The old adage has never been more true of time is money than it is in the realm of the internet.  Everything from a small online storefront, to a personal forum or blog, webhost shop, resellers, affiliates, collocation hosts to datacenters.  The one thing we all have in common is trying to squeeze 25 hours plus into a 24 hour period.   The best way we can all maximize our revenue is by better time management.  Many many years ago, the ratio of a server administrator to servers they were able to manage was only a handful.  Leap forward to today, and many system administrators can manage hundreds of servers if done so properly and that is a combination of the improvement of software automation, monitoring services, billing solutions and various applications that simply help us to manage our time better.  When it all boils down to it, we all know our business best, the problem is we only have so much time in a day, and it is always spread too thin so it seems.

The most effective method we can all take upon ourselves is to be proactive rather than reactive in our approach to our online entities.  Preparing for the worst, and having solutions in place to deal with daily, weekly or spur of the moment issues better helps us to stay on track and keep our eye on the prize.  One common occurrence that still to this day plagues many online entities, is their complete lack of planning when it comes to ensuring that their businesses are safe, secure and most importantly, functioning.  Often times clients will only find out about problems after the fact, and they quite often have no contingency plan in place.  Sometimes the resolution to these problems is simple, other times it can have devastating consequences.  The worst cases are those where the business itself is not recoverable and weeks, months or years worth of effort have all gone down the drain in a matter of moments simply because there was no set plan of recovery for the impending disaster.
